To celebrate National Potato Chip Day, we made our own potato chips! We sliced the potato, tossed the slices in salt, pepper and oil, then baked them in the oven. While we were waiting for them to cook, we learned a little about where the potato chip came from. We learned that they were invented by a chef in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was actually trying to get back at a customer, who kept sending back his French fries. He cut the potatoes thinly, poured salt all over them and fried them until they were crispy, thinking the customer would be angry. To his surprise, the customer loved them. Good thing, or we wouldn¢t have Potato Chips!
