Mardi Gras and Bowling

Sax Man Slim was his usual entertaining self for our Mardi Gras party. The residents love his big band music and also enjoyed our non-alcoholic adult beverages. The staff got in the mood by dressing up for the occasion and beads and balloons decorated the area. We also have a weekly bowling activity that gets a regular group of residents together for some friendly competition. It’s nice to see the residents cheering each other on to get a strike or spare because if they do then they win a small prize. We have a very busy March coming up. Please be sure to check out activities calendar.

Winter Fun!

It may be cold outside but our neighbors continue to have winter fun! To celebrate Valentine’s Day we had a gourmet chocolate tasting with tea followed by heart sand art. The residents loved it! Then to celebrate Mardi Gras we made Beignets and served them warm with coffee. This was so much fun and we had a great turn out. And yes, we did manage to get some confectioners sugar all over ourselves but that was all part of the process and the laughter shared. Best cooking class yet! While rolling and cutting the dough the history of the French Quarter in New Orleans was shared as well as the history of Cafƒ© Le Monde. On Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) we have a sax musician coming in and will be serving up non-alcoholic margarita’s and a special snack provided by dietary. On Valentine’s Day/Ash Wednesday we have a Girl Scout Troop coming in to share valentine’s and our lovely Father David to say Mass and provide ashes. Busy month!

Exercising, crafting, and cooking

Here at Eden Heights of West Seneca we offer a variety of activities based upon our neighbors interest. We implemented a new exercise program which includes chair exercises, weight lifting, ZUMBA, and music exercise videos. With the arrival of colder weather we initiated a cooking class and in keeping our bird watching program active we made bird feeders out of pine cones, peanut butter, and seed. It was a little messy but the residents had a blast. It didn’t take long for the local turkey population to find those feeders and start enjoying them. We have recently spotted a cardinal, waxwing, sapsucker, and eastern bluebird.

DOTed Notes

The singing group from the Department of Transportation will be visiting us once again for a St. Patty’s Day celebration. They are very entertaining and pepper their performance with funny stories and jokes. I’m sure there will be plenty of Irish humor to go around. Come join us!

New Year’s Resolutions

Here we are on New Year’s Day making our new resolutions into placards that we will hang in our rooms. Just as important, we wrote down something(s) we wanted to let go of from 2017, whether it be anger, resentment, a behavior, or something else. We then proceeded to place them in a tin can and took them outside to burn. Symbolic? Yes. But, it’s uplifting to see something you want gone from your life vanish into the thin air! Way to go folks!

Tea Party

Here are a few of our neighbors engaging in a tea tasting and making peanut butter cookies in recognition of National Peanut Butter Month. We have a cooking class every Thursday afternoon at 1:30. Next on the menu: Chicken Wing Dip!
