October 18, 2017 – was our trip to Jamestown, NY – we visited the Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz Museum
The Trip to the museum was wonderful! We started our day by leaving Olean Eden Heights at 8:30 a.m. sharp to drive to Jamestown. Arriving at 9:45 to pick up our tour guide “Joe”. He was waiting to take us through Jamestown to all the important sight seeing places. We visited the 3 murals that were on the sides of buildings throughout Jamestown. The guide took us to her childhood home, in Celeron, which was purchased by the Rappaport family and is being maintained to keep Lucys’ legacy alive. From the house we then drove to the Celeron Park to look at the Lucy Statues. The “Old” one looks nothing like Lucy and they have a beautiful “New” statue with Lucy in her polka dot dress. From there we continued to ride through the town of Celeron and back to Jamestown. We arrived back at the museum to go up to the second floor and have our luncheon at the Tropicana. The music was playing in the background while we watched episodes of I Love Lucy, one of the residents’ favorites was the one where she was stomping the grapes, simply hysterical. Our lunch consisted of a tossed salad, beef on weck, mixed vegetables, and a ice cream parfait. After our lunch, we continued downstairs and went into the studios, where you could see all the actual scenes of the Lucy episodes. Our last piece of the trip was to tour the Museum, with all the artifacts of the episodes; costumes, her car, jewelry that she wore, it was simply amazing. All of the residents enjoyed themselves and we look forward to returning very soon.
